Ruhr Literature Prize
Jörg Hilbert was awarded the Honorary Prize at the Ruhr Literature Prize 2024. From the justification: „Jörg Hilbert, the creator of ‚Ritter Rost,‘ receives the Promotion Prize for his significant contributions to literature in the Ruhr region. His most famous character, Ritter Rost, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.“
Felix Janosa, who composes and writes the songs for the Ritter Rost stories, highlights in his laudation: „Jörg’s great gift is his childlike view of people and things. A part of his personality has probably always refused to grow up and remains positively naive: cheeky, with a strong sense of self-worth and a keen eye for everything that is wrong, funny, and unjust in the world. Sometimes I think of Michael Ende, more often of Walter Moers, but the language, with its countless neologisms and peculiarities, is always distinctly Hilbert.“
